Today was bitter sweet. All day I waited for the phone to ring. No such luck. One of the places where I interviewed said I was great, but I was just the runner-up. The other place didn’t call back at all. I guess I’m back to the drawing board. But the sweet part of the day was I got up this morning and power-walked with Mom in the park. I should’ve been running, but at least I was still getting in exercise. Mom gave me $100 and I didn’t even ask for it. I was so excited, I went to the athletic store and got fitted for running shoes. I bought a pair of Mizuno running shoes on sale. They were so nice and had a great cushion. The sales guy was so nice, and he didn’t try to sell me unreasonably high priced shoes or extra stuff I didn’t need. They also had a cute little spoiled dog named Gus running around demanding attention. He reminded me of my little big brat at home. I decided to buy some running socks that help with the moisture and prevent blisters. When I left, I still had money left over. Tonight, I went to happy hour. I did go astray from the plan. (Can we say emotional eating?) I hope the fuzzy navels didn’t make me loose too many Jesus brownie points…I also hope I don’t loose points for saying something so silly like “Jesus Brownie Points” LOL!

This morning, I was determined to stick to my running plan. I realized that my next 5K is right around the corner. Me and Nyah went to the park and I was doing pretty good, until I got a stomach cramp, which I learned from one of my favorite forums is due to lack of hydration. I went back to the car and got some water, but that kinda killed my motivation. I did finish the whole routine; I just didn’t run the whole time. Plus Nyah is so bad, she still charges after every dog she sees. I think I should get extra running points for constantly pulling on a 65 pound fur ball while I jog. I might write a letter to Caesar, The Dog Whisperer, maybe he can help us…Anyway, I came home, showered, put makeup over my naughty ankle tattoo, and got dressed for my interview. I had lunch with the co-worker friend (man I miss him!) and then went to the interview. The recruiter said things look to be in my favor…
Even though I write crazy grammatically incorrect stuff, like “kinda” “y’all” and start sentences with “Me and”, I do have a Masters Degree. I just relax and write what I feel on my blog. After the interview, I had my personal training session. We started with the regular elliptical warm up and then I did the dumbbell circuit. Afterwards, he said, “Lets do something different.” Lyle pulled out the boxing gloves. I was excited; I had never put on real boxing gloves. Y’all know I’m a girly girl, and the excitement quickly faded when I thought “OMG, I might break my nails.” Despite my scary thought, I did a couple of punching routines on the punching bag and then he put the ‘things?’ on his hands, and I had to hit those. That was a great way to release built up tension and it was fun. To my delight, when we finished, my nails were still in tact.

I’m officially bored and ready to go back to work. I’ve enjoyed all the niceties of unemployment, staying up late, sleeping-in, mid-day grocery shopping, volunteering, and saying “it doesn’t matter what time you schedule the appointment.” I have another interview tomorrow, and still waiting to hear back from the 1st one. I didn’t blog yesterday, but I did squezze in a 2 mile holiday run/walk. I probably jogged about 75% of the time. My big little sister invited me back over their house for Labor Day bar-b-que. I wasn’t perfect, but I certainly wasn’t as bad as I normally would have been. I didn’t go back for seconds, and only had one small piece of cake. Today I was back on the meal plan. I can’t wait until to the final weigh in, because I can already see results!
What Did Carli Eat Today?
B- 3 Eggs with Spinach and Green Pepper
S- Pineapple Yogurt…mmmmm
L- Caesar Salad with a side of baby carrots
D- Garlic Shrimp I sautéed and “Mashed potatoes” (Cauliflower, I boiled, then mashed to look like mashed potatoes) it was fantastic!
I had a day full of temptations. It started at church when the nice lady next to us offered me candy. I’m not talking about your run of the mill peppermint; this lady had Kit-Kat’s and 3 Musketeers. Out of habit, I reached out to accept the tasty chocolate, and then quickly pulled back as I remembered my meal plan. Chocolate was definitely not a part of it. Then later we had game and movie night over my big little sister’s house. I knew I would be there late, so I packed a snack bag. I took almonds, laughing cow cheese and an apple. I’m so glad I went prepared. When everyone got hungry at Midnight and ordered a crave case from White Castle, I opened up my baggie with the almonds. They got a good laugh out of that.
They jokingly waved the greasy burgers and cheese fries around to temp me. I passed and kept munching on my almonds. Two of my friends were nice enough to try a few almonds, but they certainly didn’t put down the miniature burger. I stayed strong and said “Wait until you see me in 40 days!’ All in all, we had a ton of fun playing a trivia game on the play station 3 and watched the newest Fast and the Furious in my brother in law’s man den. It was so nice him to let us girls join in on the fun.

I woke up this morning, and felt a little hunger rumble. I had been fasting since 8pm last night and it was supposed to last for 18 hours. I’ve only fasted once before, and that was for weight loss purposes only, and it was awful. I felt weak, dizzy, and couldn’t think straight, that’s why I was so worried about this fast. But this time it was part of my commitment for “Get Fit 4 Christ,” and spiritual & physical cleansing. I prayed and fixed a big glass of apple juice. Before I realized it, it was time for my personal training session. After the warm-up on the elliptical, we worked on the upper body with dumbbells. Then came the hard part, I should have known with a title like “Combination Killer”, or “Deadly Combination”, I can’t remember which. You alternate between series of push ups and mountain climbers. The sweat was dripping good by the time we finished. The hunger wasn’t real serious until about 1p, and the fast was over at 2p. At about 1:45 I started to prepare lunch according to the program meal plan. It consisted of tuna, asparagus, apple sauce and whole grain bread.
None of which I’m a big fan of. I had to “hook-up” the tuna, I added fresh pepper and onion and some more seasoning to spice it. I sautéed the asparagus in a small amount of butter and seasoned it with veggie grill seasoning. That stuff makes all veggies taste better. I toasted the bread, (no butter) and arranged it all pretty on the plate, so it would be more appetizing. To my surprise, everything was good! I made it through the fast and enjoyed the first meal. I’m on way to a better me.
