Last night I went to the gym and worked out with Dan my personal trainer. I think he was trying to kill me! This guy walked past and said “You have the best trainer in the world Dan the Beast.” I wiped away the sweat and told him that was very true. Dan is so good to me. He said that he will not stop helping me until I weigh less than him. When I was broke with no money, he let me work out on credit.  When I gained weight, he encouraged me along the way.

After a warm up, I had to do thrusters with the 75 pound weight bar. Thrusters are where you squat and then jump up with the bar lifted up above your head. After doing five of those I had to do 20 kettle bell swings. Followed by walking planks.  I had to get down in the plank position on my hands and toes and then lower my body down to my forearms and elbows. I had to do 10 of those. I would get a 60 second rest and have to do the circuit again.

I felt like I had done a really good job of staying in shape while I was in Florida. I walked and ran 4 days of my vacation.  And I’ve done the Couch to 5K training  since I’ve been back home. But, anytime I train with Dan after missing more than one week or so, it feels like it was my first workout ever.  Near the end I felt like I wanted to puke and cry, or at least say mean things to him.

Finally after more torture including sit ups and more stuff with that stupid bar, it was over. I told him that I was training for a 5K and explained that I was doing about a mile and a half three days a week. He said that was great and added about another 15 or 20 minutes cardio to the workout. (I’m not sure if that will happen!)
Me and my Mom are both a little behind schedule for the Couch to 5K training Week 2, but we got up this morning and went to the gym together. Man oh man do I hate getting up any earlier than necessary. But, she likes to get it done early, and I knew that a Friday night run was probably not going to happen. We both did great, and are almost ready for Week 3. Are you training with me? What week are you on?

  1. You go Carli! Thrusters are not easy. I don’t think I could do more than about 50 lbs if I had to do more than one. Keep up the great work!
