The Church Candy Lady

I had a day full of temptations.  It started at church when the nice lady next to us offered me candy.  I’m not talking about your run of the mill peppermint; this lady had Kit-Kat’s and 3 Musketeers.  Out of habit, I reached out to accept the tasty chocolate, and then quickly pulled back as I remembered my meal plan.  Chocolate was definitely not a part of it.  Then later we had game and movie night over my big little sister’s house.  I knew I would be there late, so I packed a snack bag.  I took almonds, laughing cow cheese and an apple.  I’m so glad I went prepared.  When everyone got hungry at Midnight and ordered a crave case from White Castle, I opened up my baggie with the almonds.  They got a good laugh out of that.

They jokingly waved the greasy burgers and cheese fries around to temp me.  I passed and kept munching on my almonds.  Two of my friends were nice enough to try a few almonds, but they certainly didn’t put down the miniature burger.  I stayed strong and said “Wait until you see me in 40 days!’  All in all, we had a ton of fun playing a trivia game on the play station 3 and watched the newest Fast and the Furious in my brother in law’s man den.  It was so nice him to let us girls join in on the fun.

The Fast Part Deux

tuna-dinneI woke up this morning, and felt a little hunger rumble.  I had been fasting since 8pm last night and it was supposed to last for 18 hours.  I’ve only fasted once before, and that was for weight loss purposes only, and it was awful.  I felt weak, dizzy, and couldn’t think straight, that’s why I was so worried about this fast.  But this time it was part of my commitment for “Get Fit 4 Christ,” and spiritual & physical cleansing.  I prayed and fixed a big glass of apple juice.  Before I realized it, it was time for my personal training session.  After the warm-up on the elliptical, we worked on the upper body with dumbbells.  Then came the hard part, I should have known with a title like “Combination Killer”, or “Deadly Combination”, I can’t remember which.  You alternate between series of push ups and mountain climbers.  The sweat was dripping good by the time we finished.  The hunger wasn’t real serious until about 1p, and the fast was over at 2p.  At about 1:45 I started to prepare lunch according to the program meal plan.  It consisted of tuna, asparagus, apple sauce and whole grain bread.

None of which I’m a big fan of.  I had to “hook-up” the tuna, I added fresh pepper and onion and some more seasoning to spice it.  I sautéed the asparagus in a small amount of butter and seasoned it with veggie grill seasoning.  That stuff makes all veggies taste better.  I toasted the bread, (no butter) and arranged it all pretty on the plate, so it would be more appetizing.  To my surprise, everything was good!  I made it through the fast and enjoyed the first meal.  I’m on way to a better me.

And then there was…The Fast

The Fast will begin today at 8pm.  It’s designed to last for 18 hours.  According to the plan, we’re only allowed 100% Fruit Juice and water until 2pm tomorrow.  This will cleanse our bodies before the food plan begins.  Lyle mentioned on his blog that Moses didn’t fast for weight loss, but to cleanse.  He suggested that we pray and read the bible to get through the difficult parts.  The new food plan that we will follow is very strict, each day includes lots of eggs, veggies, protein meats (no pork), and Apple Cider Vinegar.  I haven’t eaten pork for about 2 years, so at least I won’t miss bacon with breakfast.  And, I’ve been taking the apple cider vinegar for a few days now.  It works!  You won’t have to do number 2 immediately, but when you go, you really go.  I know that healthy eating is so important on my journey to weight loss, and I hope that this will help jump-start me in the right direction again.

Cupcakes & Twinkies & Cookies Oh My!

I went to the studio today, and my friend had cookies with icing, hostess cupcakes, Twinkies and Chinese Fried Rice.   I think he was testing me, But I passed!  I did not eat not one bite of that “Devil Food.”  I stayed focused and we finished weeks 5 and 7 of my Couch to the 5K podcasts.  Then I went to Bread Co grabbed some lunch and caught up on my bible reading assignments for the Get Fit 4 Christ Program.  After lunch and a very long reading session, I met with Lyle the personal trainer.  He had me start by warming up on the elliptical machine for 10 minutes.  Then we did circuit training with dumbbells.  He gave me 8 pound dumbbells in each hand!  I’ve never worked out with 8 pound weights.  It went really fast and reminded me of boot camp class, but at a faster pace.  He also threw some Sit ups, push ups and jumping jacks in the routine.  When it was time to do planks  (holding up your body with your upper body muscles) I said the very bad “C” word…(I Can’t).  He quickly corrected me, and said “you can” … And, I did.  After a good sweaty workout, I came home and touched up my resume and cover letter.  I have an interview tomorrow, so say a prayer, cross your fingers, or just run an extra lap for me!  LOL.

I Did the Unthinkable

I got a Twitter page.  I figure as a blogger, I should have one. I was anti-twitter and anti-facebook for a long time.  I thought it was for kids and people who needed to get a life.  But almost all my friends and family are on Facebook, and it’s a great way to find your 3rd grade classmates that you forgot even existed.    I love Facebook, and hopefully I’ll like Twitter too.  Today I was only feeling about 70% myself.  I knew that I had to at least go walk, so the little sister and I went to the park.  I said, if I can just push myself to do the 25 minute walking assignment, I won’t feel like a failure.  I decided to listen to my week 7 podcast and check for edits while walking.  Week 7 sounded good, with only one correction, and before I realized it, I had power walked for 37 minutes.  Today was supposed to be a rest day, but I had to catch up from being sick yesterday.  The other part of the assignment was to read John 8-15 and write down what we ate.  I read most of the assigned chapters and will catch up on the rest tomorrow.  I have a studio appointment tomorrow, and hope to finalize Couch to the 5K training podcasts weeks 5 thru 7.
