The “Bum-Pop Man” aka Ice Cream Truck is driving around playing loud Gangsta Rap instead of the little jingle he’s supposed to play. Just another crazy hood story… Anyway, today was the Official start day for Get Fit 4 Christ. Our assignment was to Run 15 Minutes, Write down all of our food, Read John Chapters 1-7, and blog. I did 3 out 4. Can you believe I didn’t run? I felt terrible today; I was lying sick in bed most of the day. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. I read the assigned chapters, they discussed Jesus and when he started to perform miracles like turning water to wine and showing people who he really was. It was an interesting read, and this time the bible was right by my bed, and not hidden in my trunk. It feels good to say, I read, took notes, and even understood… I’ll have new feature at the end of my Posts called, “What Did Carli Eat Today?” …Please don’t eat what I eat… All Day, I was trying so hard not to eat “Devil-Food” (a funny term I made up), because I was thinking that people might read this and get food ideas. I really wanted pizza for dinner, but I got Subway instead, just for y’all!
What Did Carli Eat Today?
Bowl of Raisin Bran Crunch
Juice Box of 100% Fruit Juice
Leftover Whole Wheat Linguini from the Olive Garden
Most of a Foot long from Subway (loaded with tons of veggies), Sun Chips and a Diet Coke
Today was the 1st meeting for the Get fit 4 Christ program. We all met with Lyle and he told us a few more details about the program. We have to keep a food journal, one my least favorite things to do, even though I know much it helps me. We not only have to keep a food record, but post it on our blogs. Will that stop me buying a blizzard from Dairy Queen just because it’s hot outside? I sure hope so, because I did that today….Anyway, he also mentioned something about a fast. All jokes aside, I literally raised my hand and asked, “A fast from WHAT?” He replied “Food”…“Oh, wow” I mumbled. I’m going to have to do lot a praying to make it through this.
Amongst other things, he discussed the importance of taking multi-vitamins, cleansing our body, and drinking Bragg – Apple Cider Vinegar
daily with water. I think I’ll buy some. And, last but not least, we’re running a 5K! After my last 5K in July, I kinda felt like “mission accomplished”, but I guess I was wrong. I’ll be doing my 4th 5K this year on October 10th. I’m confident I’ll beat my race time again. Well before I go, I have to send a “ghetto shout-out” as my sister calls it to Michael Jackson
. Happy B-Day MJ a true musical genius! Check out the pic from our MJ Party. My Aunt won best costume with baby “Blanket” in her arms. I still laugh about that!

Lyle, the personal trainer/author, is Serious. We’ve already had 2 assignments, and the program doesn’t officially start until Sunday! Our 1st homework assignment was to study 1st Samuel 17: 1-51, the story of David & Goliath and create a blog. I have to keep it real with y’all. I not only had to Find my bible in my trunk, but I also had to really flip through to find the chapter. Of course the blog part was easy. The 2nd Assignment was writing out our goals. We have due dates and everything, I feel like I’m back in school…Me and the other winning contestants will be taking “Before Pictures” tomorrow at the fitness studio. I want to be cute, but maybe I’ll just put on a little lip gloss and save the real fierceness for the “After” Photo Shoot.
This Morning I had a meeting because I’m on the Career Fair committee with the Black MBA Association…I know thats irony at it’s best… Later this afternoon, my body felt so blah after not working out for 2 days, so I went to the gym and jogged to my week 6 podcast. Notice I didn’t say “power-walked,” I actually did Day 1 of Week 6. Whew! When you don’t run, you loose it quick. The whole time I was saying “Carli, talk to me now…tell me my 8 minute run is over.”… I had 2 sucky songs that just didn’t flow and have to be changed, but Week 5 is in the final editing stages. Thanks for being patient.
Okay, so my b-day was a couple weeks ago, but it certainly felt like my b-day was today! This morning I woke up to my Mom calling me to go workout! How cool is that? Me, Mom and Nyah power-walked a little over 2 miles in the park, while I made some final edits to Week 5. But, before we left, I got an email that I had been waiting on all week. I was chosen for the Get Fit 4 Christ 40 day makeover plan! Remember the boot camp class I took at 6 AM? Well, the instructor is a personal trainer and the author of a new book Get Fit 4 Christ. He was looking for select boot campers to be a success story in the new edition of the book. He wanted dedicated people who needed to lose the extra pounds, and were willing to work hard and blog about their journey. Uh…Hello….that had my name written all over it! I had to write a blog post explaining why he should pick me.
I guess he liked my story! With the program, we get FREE personal training sessions 3 times a week and lots more! (He normally charges $40/hr.) I can not wait! I’m so ready for the challenge. I’ve never worked with a personal trainer. With 4 weeks of boot camp, I was losing inches and getting compliments all the time. I can’t imagine what personal training sessions will do for my curves. I’ll be sure to keep you posted on my progress. AND if all that wasn’t enough for a great day, I got a lead on a possible job AND my producer friend called and told me he had weeks 6 and 7 ready for my review! Whew what a day. As my pastor says “Ain’t He Alright?!” (or for the proper folks, “Isn’t God GOOD?” … Everybody kinda laughed at the chunky girl creating a website about running and losing weight. But, Yesterday, I had my biggest day yet with over 400 hits! If you can dream it, You can Be It!
This morning the co-worker friend called and woke me up to remind me about a job fair downtown. (Do I still call him “the co-worker friend” since I got the axe?) I dunno… I got dressed in business attire, printed out some resumes, picked him up and we went to the convention center. Unfortunately a job fair isn’t what it used to be. All the employers pretty much said, “here’s an ink pen with our website, please submit your resume there.” What a hoax, I could have done that at home in my pajamas. After the job fair, we had lunch at our favorite spot and caught up on the latest news. Then I met with an HR lady at the firm to get my COBRA stuff in order. On the way home, I called the little sister and we made plans to workout.
The sun was shining and there was a wonderful cool breeze, so she suggested we go to the park. I wanted to double check weeks 3 and 4 before I posted them. Week 3 was perfect! I was so excited, but Week 4 was still a mess. Despite the great lyrics, Patti LaBelle’s “New Attitude” just didn’t flow; and 2 minutes into the warm-up walk, you hear “Congrats you finished your runs for the day!”, it was just wrong. I was so disappointed, we worked on it till after midnight last night. I wanted to quit and go home, but that’s the great thing about working out outside, you have to go back to the car, regardless of how you feel. But on the positive note, with all that listening and critiquing, we power walked a little over 3 miles. I can’t complain about that.
P.S. I smiled at a skinny jogger and waved; and it looked like it made her day! One smile goes a long way.
I left the drama behind, and got off my butt today and went to the gym. Mom and the little sister joined me. This is mom’s second time working out this week! And she hadn’t worked out for months! Yay Mama! She said she might even buy an Mp3 player and download my 5K training podcast because she wants to be “Fit and Fierce.” I love it! I jogged for about 2 miles while listening to Week 4 and checking for last minute corrections. Then I ate some fresh pineapple and headed to the studio. We finished week 3 and week 4. I hope you enjoy it.
Happy Running!
This morning, it was raining, and I didn’t go for my run. Then I ate greasy pancakes, and I pretty much felt queasy the rest of the day. Yes, these are just excuses, but I got a great non-exercise story to tell since I was just sitting at home….Mid-Morning today, during the pancake feast, my doorbell rang. Nyah was excited to see who was there, but I took my time going to look out the window, because my love-sick ex-boyfriend always rings the bell and runs. (But, that’s a whole different story!) When I got to the window to look out, there was actually some guy I’d never seen before on my porch. I said “Who is it?” and he said “Do you know who’s car that is?” as he motioned across the street. I said “No” and looked at the car in complete shock. He said “Some girl came up and destroyed it and just drove off, didn’t you hear it?” She flattened all the tires, bust the windows, tore up the inside of the trunk and cut up the seats.
I’d only seen things like that on TV. None of us knew who the owner was, but I knew for a fact it was a man. About a half hour later the guy came out to his car, just shaking his head, he knew what he had done. They called police and the CSI
squad. There were 3 police cars, and the CSI
lady pulled out her kit to dust for finger prints and take samples. It was so exciting! I mean, I felt terrible for the guy, but it was so cool to see all the real CSI stuff. Then….The WIFE came! I could see her wedding ring from my window. She was telling the police, she doesn’t know why the girl would do something like this. I was thinking “Duh, she found out her boyfriend was married to YOU!” The police took statements from the guy, his wife and the neighbors who witnessed it, and then they packed up and left. Finally, AAA came and towed away the man’s totaled car. Now get this, I took a picture on my cell so I could post it on here, and you know what? My freaking phone fell in the washing machine while I was doing laundry. I guess that was I deserve for being so nosey. Maybe tomorrow, I’ll just go running and mind my own business!
This morning, I called my Mom, to join me on my 3 mile brisk walk in the park. I always wished I had free time during the day like she and my big little sister have…maybe I wished too hard… But Anyway, she agreed, and Me and Mom and Nyah enjoyed a walk in the park. I told her that it was interesting how the morning joggers are a lot friendly than the evening joggers. They smile and wave and wish you good luck, whereas the evening people yell “On Your Left!” and want you to move out of the way. Then she said, I noticed you don’t speak to anyone at all. I was a little caught off gaurd by her noticing, and truthfully answered “Well…um…I only speak to the fat people, to encourage them.” My mom is a discrimination investigator, and told me that wasn’t right, and that I should speak to everyone. I realized how biased I was, and by the end of the walk, I made at decision to at least smile at all the joggers, not just the fat ones. LOL! Lesson Learned. Thanks Mom.
